Shawn earned his Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and is an associate professor in the nationally-recognized Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Human Resources Management (IOHRM) Master's program at Appalachian State
University. He has over twelve years of consulting experience in applying quantitative, measurement, and analytic methods to solve issues for a wide variety of clients including the Department of Defense (DoD), General Services Administration, the United States Army and Army National Guard, the U.S. Air Force, and local medical groups and start-up companies.

Shawn's current line of academic research focuses on how social media can be used to meet organizational objectives, the legal issues surrounding using social media for employment decisions, and the application of analytics to human resources.

Research Consultants

Casher Belinda

Casher is a second-year graduate student in Appalachian State University’s Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management Master’s Program, and will graduate in May of 2017. Previously, Casher attended the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned his B.S. in psychology, minored in business, and was thoroughly involved in leadership research. Prior to working for the Office of Research Consultation, Casher served as a project leader on the HR Science research team, under the Center for Analytics Research and Education, where he led a team in the investigation of how companies’ web and social media sites can be utilized to communicate corporate social responsibility initiatives to stakeholders and potential applicants. His work has been accepted to and presented at multiple regional and national conferences. Casher is currently studying how adult attachment styles and workplace romance motives impact a variety of employee outcomes, and hopes to pursue a doctoral degree and continue studying a variety of micro and macro organizational phenomena after graduation.


 Zach Morgan
Zach Morgan

Zach is a research consultant in his first year with the Office of Research Consultation. Since graduating with a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology last spring, Zach has begun teaching multiple stats-based research labs for Psychology department at Appalachian State. As a consultant for the ORC, Zach supports faculty members throughout all phases of the research process, from design to analysis. He particularly enjoys hearing the sighs of relief rendered by professors when they are told that their data won’t be nearly as difficult to analyze as they had thought. 

Outside of the office, Zach enjoys speaking and learning Spanish, playing disc golf, watching the Carolina Panthers on Sundays, and taking his Great Pyrenees, Kazak, on walks by the river.

Kane Thibodeaux

Kane is currently working towards his M.A in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management (IOHRM), and will graduate in May 2017. As an undergrad, he attended the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where he received his B.S. in psychology and a minor in business. Kane spent this summer as a HR Graduate Intern at TE Connectivity, where he was heavily involved in the culture and engagement assessment process. As the ORC's HR Coordinator, he handles the office's logistics and coordinates research & statistical workshops, along with many other HR activities.
